The Matcha Effect
Alert and calm at the same time – get the full matcha experience!

Matcha has a special combination of caffeine and the amino acid L-theanine. This combination makes you feel both alert and calm at the same time. Matcha contains just about half as much caffeine than coffee and instead of the caffeine fast absorb to your body, L-theanine balances it and makes the process go slower. The energy curve becomes flatter and lasts for longer of time. You will still get the positive effects of caffeine but without feeling that increased heart rate, shakiness or famous caffeine crash.

Studies are showing that L-theanine has an ability to release serotonin and dopamine in the brain which could be the explanation of why we can experience stress release and calm when drinking green tea. When the tea plant is shadowed during its last few weeks before harvest, the tea leaves gets more concentrated with L-theanine than normal. This is made to give the tea a milder and sweeter taste but also for the positive effects that L-theanine has to the body.

Matcha is also high in antioxidants and EGCG is a special flavonoid that occurs in matcha. Not only does it act like an antioxidant there are also signs that EGCG triggers the system that are managing our metabolism. EGCG is part of a group of subjects called polyphenols which has a tendency of binding to the milk protein, casein. This means that its positive effects gets lost when combined with dairy products and can’t be absorb by your body. Use plantbased alternatives to get the full matcha experience!
