Matcha Bowl – Blue Asanoha
Handmade matcha bowl from the old province of Mino in Japan glazed with a beautiful asanoha pattern. The starshaped pattern represents hemp leaves that was often used to make fabrics before cotton was imported to Japan. Hemp is a hardy plant and the pattern was often used for baby clothing hoping they will grow up just as strong as the hemp plant.
The province of Mino is famous for their pottery and porcelain crafts. Their history stretches back 1300 years and they positioned themselves among the foremost when porcelain for the tea ceremony was created there during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Even today, Minos work are widely renowned and appreciated for their excellent craftsmanship.
Since the matcha bowl is handmade, the craftsmans skills and personal touch is reflected in each product. Different shifts in colour and pattern may occure between the bowls.
